Abstract:The expansion coherence between ettringite and brucite has been studied. Results indicated that the coherence was obviously under the condition of w (MgO)=5.0% in clinker and w (SO 3)> 3.5 % in cement. The coherence did not show under the condition of w (MgO)=5.0% in clinker and SO 3 content being low (<3.5%) in cement. Furthermore little coherence was showed under the condition of w (MgO)=5.0% in clinker and SO 3 content being close to 3.5% in cement. It is suggested from the results that the dry shrinkage in long term of high performance concrete may be compensated by the expansion coherence between ettringite and brucite.
