Abstract:To evaluate the influence of asphalt types on performance of stress absorbing membrane interlayer(SAMI), properties of three asphalt materials were studied in the laboratory, which were Qilu 70# petroleum asphalt for road, composite modified asphalt(CMA) and rubber asphalt(RA). Then a sand anti fracture(SAF) mixture was designed as a special mixture type interlayer to enhance the fracture resistance of the hot mix asphalt overlay, and performance of SAF mixtures were evaluated by lab experiments. Results show that CMA and RA have good technical properties, so these two kinds of asphalt could be selected in engineering project considering economic factors.
