Abstract:Based on the characteristics of Gobi wind sand flow environment, the erosive wear tests of epoxy and its composites were carried out by sediment air injection method to investigate the effects of wind sand flow velocity, impingement angles, impacting orientation and fiber type on the erosion rate of epoxy and its composite. Results show that epoxy and its composites show semi ductile erosion behaviour, with peak erosion rate at 45°60° impingement angle. Erosion rate increases with increasing of wind sand flow velocity. Exponential relationship is observed with wind sand flow velocity, and the velocity index is 2.12.8. The impacting orientations have a significant influence on erosion, under the same condition, the erosion rate of perpendicular impacting is higher than that of parallel erosion. The morphology of eroded surfaces was examined by using scanning electron microscopy(SEM). Possible erosion mechanisms are discussed.
