Discrete Element Simulation on Triaxial Shear Test of Asphalt Mixtures

Abstract:

In order to evaluate and estimate rutting resistance of asphalt mixtures more conveniently, the softwear PFC2D was applied to simulate the triaxial shear test of asphalt mixture based on the discrete element method（DEM）, and the simulation results are compared with laboratory test results. Results show that the discrete element simulation and laboratory test have good correlation, which verifies the applicability of the model, while the virtual test method based on this model can be established to evaluate and predict the rutting resistance of asphalt mixtures.
