The Journal of Building Materials is a professional academic journal overseen by the Ministry of Education of China and sponsored by Tongji University, dedicated to serving scientific and technological professionals in the field of building materials domestically and internationally. The journal is indexed by EI Compendex, Scopus, CA, Chinese Core Journal Selection (2023 Edition), Chinese Science Citation Database (CSCD), and others. It has been awarded "RCCSE China’s Authoritative Academic Journal (A+)" for four consecutive years, selected as a "T1-level High-Quality S&T Journal in Construction Science" in 2020, and continuously included in the World Journal Impact Index (WJCI) Report from 2020 to 2023. In 2024, it was recognized as an Excellent International Influence Journal in China, a Top 100 S&T Journal Case in the Demonstration Casebase of Chinese University S&T Journals Construction, and awarded the Fifth Shanghai University Excellent S&T Journal Award. It is also part of the second phase of the Chinese S&T Journal Excellence Initiative's Chinese-language Tiered Journal Project.
Aligned with national strategic needs in major infrastructure construction, carbon neutrality strategies, and intelligent construction, the journal adheres to the philosophy of "providing leading theoretical and technical support for the progress of major national engineering projects and the building materials industry." It focuses on the interaction between fundamental research and engineering applications in building materials, aiming to bridge academic research and engineering practice, with a particular emphasis on the transformation and application of material technology innovations in major national engineering projects. We sincerely invite contributions from experts and scholars worldwide.
I. Scope of Solicitation
The journal primarily solicits contributions in the following research areas:
Fundamental theoretical research on building materials (cement, mortar, concrete, steel bars, composites, and other materials).
Research on low-carbon building material preparation technologies and full-lifecycle carbon emission assessments.
Research on the performance of engineering materials in extreme environments (deep sea, deep earth, deep space, extreme cold, etc.).
Development and application of functional composites in the context of intelligent construction.
Interdisciplinary theories, methods, and technologies integrating building materials with computational simulations, big data, and artificial intelligence.
Key technologies for the recycling of construction waste and the production of recycled building materials.
Innovative material application practices in typical cases of major engineering projects.
II. Publication Formats
The journal features six regular columns: "Academic Papers," "Engineering Applications," "Research Briefs," "Experimental Techniques," "Bulletins," "Review Articles," and "Special Topics." Publications are issued monthly based on actual submissions.
III. Submission Requirements and Notes
Typically organized by the journal’s editorial board or young editorial board members, or selected from important domestic academic papers. Requirements are generally the same as for general submissions.
IV. Author Requirements
Authorship should be ordered according to actual contributions, with the first author being the core contributor to the research. The corresponding author is usually the research leader or project supervisor.
When master’s or doctoral students from higher education institutions are first authors, their supervisors must generally be the corresponding authors.
Undergraduate students are welcome to submit papers, typically requiring their undergraduate supervisors or associate professors/professors as corresponding authors.
For review articles, the submitter (corresponding author) should have established expertise in the subject matter and must include their own previous work in the submitted review, with at least five of their published papers cited in the references.
Scholars from outside mainland China are welcome to submit in simplified or traditional Chinese.
V. Notes
Manuscripts should be in WORD format, with standardized characters and ample line spacing. Units and symbols must comply with relevant national standards. Foreign letters must be clearly distinguished between uppercase and lowercase, upright and italic, with subscripts, superscripts, and symbols clearly positioned. Figures and tables should be carefully selected. Main lines in illustrations should be three times as thick as auxiliary lines. Text and symbols in figures must be clearly labeled and consistent with the main text. Photos should be clear and well-defined. Text related to tables and figures in the manuscript should be listed in both Chinese and English (see the journal’s writing template for details).
Chinese references should be listed in both Chinese and English. Unpublished materials should not be included in the references, and reference numbers should be arranged in the order of their appearance in the text (see the journal’s reference citation rules for details).
Manuscripts not meeting the above requirements will be returned to the author for revision before review.
The journal prohibits multiple submissions of the same manuscript.
VI. Acceptance Regulations
All manuscripts, whether accepted or not, will be reviewed externally before final approval by the journal’s editorial board. For review articles, at least one editorial board member will serve as an external reviewer.
All authors of manuscripts to be accepted must sign a copyright transfer agreement, transferring reproduction, distribution, information network dissemination, translation, compilation, and other rights worldwide to the journal.
All accepted manuscripts will be published online or provided as information services via the Internet, with hot-topic reviews published online within 10 days of acceptance.
Upon publication, the journal will pay the authors a one-time royalty (covering print, CD-ROM, and online versions) and provide a complimentary issue of the journal. Manuscripts not intended for publication will generally be notified to the author within 1–3 months, and original manuscripts will not be returned.
VII. Submission Method
Please log in to the journal’s official website (http://jcxb.cnjournals.cn/), click "Author Login" on the homepage, and submit through the online system. For review articles, please note "Long Review" or "Short Commentary Review" in the remarks; for special topic papers, please note the "Topic Name."
